What's the shelf life of Lavender Anne's Products?

They are best used right after purchase but many people will store them in drawers to retain their freshness until use. The soap will last for many years but after about 18 months they will begin lose their scent and shape. Once you start using a bar it will last about 4- 6 weeks if allowed to dry out between uses.
Our salves, lip balms, oils, scrubs, herbs and powders will last for years but their potency will diminish after 1 year.
Lotions and Body Butters do not contain any artificial preservatives or emulsifiers. You may see some change in texture; the oils will heal and soften naturally depending on the temperature. You also may see some separation between the oils and water; it is normal, just give it a stir. General length of time is about 6 months, make sure to store in a cool place or even the refrigerator, as heat will accelerate its decline.
Tinctures will last forever!!!!

What's the difference between Lavender Anne's soap and what you can buy at the store?

One difference is GYLCERINE. Glycerin naturally occurs in the soap making process and is a wonderful moisturizer, but the commercial soap companies extract it and sell it. In most homemade soap operations glycerin occurs naturally and stays in the soap so it can work with the other natural oils in the soap to keep you skin healthy!
Another difference is that we make a product that will care for the skin where a commercial soap producer makes a product that can sit on the shelf at the store for an extended period of time, which is why they pump it with stabilizers, preservatives, etc.

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are highly concentrated liquids that come directly from plantsThey are praised for their potent fragrance and their medicinal benefits. Some benefits of essential oils include skin and hair softening, skin moisturizing, rash / eczema / psoriasis relief, youthful rejuvenation, anxiety dissipation, relief of tension, stress, pain, migraine, and enhancement of overall well being.
Fragrance oils are artificially created fragrances that contain synthetic substances. They do not contain the true floral essence so they cannot contribute to aromatherapy and healing of the skin and body.
We choose to not use any fragrance oils in our products. We feel they diminish the quality of our products and do not help us heal and care for our costumers.

Why and how to use natural body care products for you and your family:

One of the main ways your body acquires nutrients, other than eating, is transdermally (through the skin). Your skin is your largest organ (22 square feet on average) and 60 percent of the substances you put on it are eventually absorbed into the bloodstream. This semi permeable membrane allows us to absorb vitamins and minerals, but, unfortunately, it absorbs harmful chemicals we put on it, too. Chemicals in our personal care products are no joke. They can disrupt our hormones, promote allergies, lead to reproductive issues and increase risk of some cancers.
What to watch out for:
1. Fragrance: Can mean a combination of over 4,000 ingredients, most of the time, synthetic chemicals and cancer-causing toxins are hiding under that one sneaky term. Constant exposure to fragrances has been shown to negatively impact the central nervous system and can trigger allergies, migraines and asthma symptoms.

2. Parabens & Phthalates:Unfortunately they are everywhere! Banned by the European Union in 2003, phthalates and parabens are a group of chemicals commonly used as preservatives in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

3. Triclosan: Anything that’s labeled as ‘antibacterial’ likely contains triclosan.

4. Talc: This powdered mineral found in makeup, baby and adult powders and foundation. It’s used as a drying agent, but it’s a known lung irritant and may also be carcinogenic. Talc has been linked to ovarian and testicular cancer.

5. Mineral oil: Baby oil is essentially made of mineral oil mixed with fragrance, which is a nasty combination. Mineral oil is a cheap byproduct of petroleum processing and acts as a plastic wrap on the skin, inhibiting the skin’s ability to breathe, absorb and release toxins. It also slows the skin’s natural cell development, causing the skin to age prematurely.
